INFECTION & INFECTION CONTROL
An infection is caused by harmful microorganisms that produce disease, commonly referred to as pathogens and germs. Microorganisms are everywhere; in the air, in the water and in soil. While some are harmless and others are harmful. Infection control is essential because if infections are not prevented from spreading, people can become unwell and even die.
INFECTIONS SPREADING
The six stages are
- A harmful pathogen causes infection
- The environment allows the pathogen to multiply
- Transport enables the pathogen to move
- A route into the body allows the pathogen to enter
- A route out of the body enables the pathogen to exit
- The pathogen then enters the body of another person.
